Recycling Symbols Demystified

Why? Because it’s a minefield

THE 5 R’s:

- Refuse
- Reduce
- Refill
- Reuse
- Recycle (last on list!)

It really is! The craziness at the moment is that all our local councils have their own recycling arrangements which means there are no standard rules. Minefield!

So to crack it, or at least make it easier, we thought we’d do consecutive actions on recycling over the next 3 weeks, so we all have it nailed:

Week 1: Cracking the Recycling Symbol code
Week 2: Things to be sure to do and not do
Week 3: Surprising things you can/can’t recycle

Ok, let’s do this

First things first, symbol savviness. Good to know so that:

a) we know what we’re actually buying and we can decide if we want to still do so; and

b) we don’t mess up the recycling by throwing in stuff that can’t be recycled.
